Caballero Reynaldo es el alter ego de Luis Gonzalez (Cuenca, Spain, 1962). Con una carrera musical de muchos años en la escena musical independiente española, es quizá mas conocido en el extranjero por su trabajo relacionado con la obra musical de Frank Zappa.

Ya en 1996, poco después de fundar su propio sello discográfico Hall of Fame Records, y mucho antes de internet y de las bandas y festivales homenaje, comenzó a producir y lanzar al mercado discos con recopilaciones de artistas haciendo sus versiones propias de obras de Zappa: La famosa serie Unmatched. Este formato se mantuvo hasta el volúmen 9 publicado en 2009 y a partir de entonces cada capítulo estaba íntegramente interpretado por un único artista.

Caballero Reynaldo is the alter ego of Luis González, born at Cuenca, Spain, in 1962. His musical career spans over twenty years and is well knonw in the Spanish independent musical scene. Abroad, however, is perhaps better known thanks to his Frank Zappa-related work.

Back in 1996, soon after founding his own record label, Hall of Fame Records (that’s right, this very same one, clever boy!) and many years before the internet and the rise of tribute bands, back when people bought cds, he began publishing Unmatched, a series of records where many different artists performed Zappa works. This format was changed on the tenth volume (2009) when a single artist would be fully in charge of the release.

Caballero Reynaldo fue, como no podía ser de otra forma, el protagonista del primer volúmen en su nuevo formato, y ese mismo año publica el ya clásico The Grand Kazoo en el que, mientras otras bandas y artistas miran a la obra zappiana desde su aspecto más serio, complejo y virtuoso, Reynaldo toma un camino totalmente opuesto e interpreta la obra simplificando y desdramatizando su ejecución manteniendo intactos su sentido lúdico y humorístico. A fin de cuentas, ¿Qué hay más humorístico que una banda de España tocando música de Zappa en estilo country?

Caballero Reynaldo (who else?) was in charge of the tenth volume: The Grand Kazoo where, while other artists look at the Zappa works from the point of view of its complexity and technical dexterity, he takes a completely different approach, simplifying and dedramatizing the music while keeping its irreverence and sense of humour. After all, can anything be funnier than watching a Spanish band playing Zappa music in country style?

Para llevar su show, originalmente grabado en estudio, a los escenarios Caballero Reynaldo crea The Grand Kazoo, una banda con multitud de intérpretes que en su versión mas básica está formada por Marieta Tamarit a las voces, Román García al bajo, Santi Serrano en la batería, Manu Vicente y Manoel Macía a las guitarras, oZcar McCuenca en los vientos y él mismo. Con esta formación (con ligeras modificaciones) llevan su show por toda Europa, desde Lisboa a París, pasando por Larvik en Noruega y la misma Zappanale en el año 2010.

The Grand Kazoo was a studio album, but its success inside and outside Spain led to an international tour and for that purpose a band was created with long-time collaborators such as Marieta Tamarit (vocals), Román García (bass), Santi Serrano (drums), Manu Vicente and Manoel Macía (guitars), or oZcar McCuenca (brass). The line-up would be adapted to the venue and with slight modifications Caballero Reynaldo & The Grand Kazoo took their show to Barcelona, Germany (Zappanale 21), Paris, Norway (Yellow Snow Festival, Larvik) or Lisbon during 2010.

A partir de entonces, y sin olvidar sus carreras individuales, Caballero Reynaldo & The Grand Kazoo ha publicado diversos discos homenaje, no solo a Zappa, sino a gente como King Crimson, Yes, Motörhead o incluso a Ringo Starr! En 2016, para celebrar sus XX años de carrera en la escena musical, Caballero Reynaldo publica Reynaldo plays Zappa? Una nueva mirada global a su obra zappiana, con la principal novedad de la incorporación a las voces de Rebeca Ibáñez.

Since then, while continuing with their own musical careers, they have managed to release several records dedicated, not only to Zappa, but also to King Crimson, Yes, Motörhead or even Ringo Starr!

Last year Reynaldo celebrated his XX anniversary in the musical scene and he released Reynaldo plays Zappa?, a fresh new look at his own relationship with Zappa, with the highlight of Rebeca Ibáñez on vocals.

En 2017 Caballero Reynaldo vuelve a las carreteras europeas con The Grand Kazoo y es invitado a participar en la edición de este año de la Zappanale, dos conciertos en la mañana y la noche del 15 de julio.
